My thoughts on Newsnicht are unprintable. Surely on such a momentous occasion AS YESTERDAY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR SCOTLAND, it justified a programme from Edinburgh with the party leaders on a live programme. Credit is due to Brewer who did make an attempt at getting the un answered questions aired. But Mundell and the rest of them just regurgitated the same old boak inducing guff that Moore has sent out. Listening to Mcneil agreeing with a Tory has surely confirmed Labours credentials. Treacherous. They will and can do nothing to protect Scotland from this divisive bill. The holes in Calman are obvious for even a primary school child; I just pray that the SNP get a strong vote in May to exploit them to the full, this is the end game.

But back to Newsnicht. The programme format is now, in order to deflect claims of bias, that you get the SNP point of view on at the beginning as a recorded package and then you have the two or three opposition points of view on the live piece and give them their heads with no prospect of reply. There is effectively no SNP voice. The opposition however, will have been able to review the SNPs recorded piece and build their points on that. Biased, bungling, amateur, propaganda.

The BBC are never short of ideas when it comes to anti SNP bombast. Catriona Shearer on the lunch time slot today was positively brimming with it when she asked Douglas Fraser at Holyrood, “how embarrassing is this for Alex Salmond” in response to the remarks made by Rupert Soames the son of Lord Soames and CEO of Aggreko that the Scottish Governments plans on power generation for the future were in his opinion “unrealistic.”

No reasons were offered just rhetoric from a Tory toff full of self-interest. Yet, the BBC was on it like a dog on a bone. Was there nothing positive to come from that conference that could also have been reported? Where were the real business men in the shape of McColl, Farmer and Soutar. People who did it the hard way, not on daddies cheque book and contacts.

What is the betting that this will feature heavily on reporting Scotland, and be the headline on Newsnicht, with little reply from the SNP.

What would be interesting to find out would be by what route did Rupert find himself invited to speak at this during a Business in Parliament conference. Of course we need to hear all shades of opinion, but backed up by some substance. I wonder which MSP invited him there. My betting is on Foulkes, this was classic Foulkes back stabbing.. The BBC will feed on it for weeks.

I noticed on BBC reporting Scotland another "SNP ACCUSED," propaganda news clip regaridng the closure of a school in Ayrshire, doubtless it will be the headline on NEWSNICHT, a programme I can no longer watch without shouting at the TV.

Well surprise surprise:

SCHOOL CLOSURE HYPOCRISY FROM LABOUR

LABOUR PROPOSED AND VOTED FOR KILMARNOCK CLOSURE

The closure of Crossroads School in Kilmarnock, reported in today’s Herald was proposed and voted for by Labour in East Ayrshire.

The SNP MSP for the area Willie Coffey today condemned the utter hypocrisy of Labour’s education spokesman after it was revealed the closure motion was put forward by a Labour councillor and that Labour voted for the closure throughout the process. Mr Coffey also said it was ridiculous to claim that this closure meant other rural schools would close and it exposed how Labour's Holyrood group would stoop to any level of dishonesty.

Mr Coffey pointed out that:

* The key vote on the closure of the Crossroads school was moved by the leader of the Labour group on East Ayrshire Council, Maureen McKay, at the council Cabinet meeting of 23 June and it was passed unanimously by the Council Cabinet – which includes Labour members. It was also unanimously backed by all parties, and local education and church representatives.

* Labour MSPs also voted in favour of the Schools (Consultation) Scotland Bill on 19 November 2009 which was passed unanimously by the Parliament.

* Between 1999 and 2007 Labour closed 64 rural schools.

* Labour’s manifesto did not offer a commitment to any additional protection for rural schools. Under the old legislation that Labour would have left in place, the school would not have been referred to Ministers for a decision and the closure would simply have gone ahead on the basis of the Council’s decision.

Mr Coffey, who represents Kilmarnock said:

“Des McNulty’s comments are misleading and utterly hypocritical.

“This is typical of the unsavoury depths Labour have sink to in opposition. No one can trust a word they utter. They voted for a closure so they can protest about it afterwards. Labour have been misleading parents and children.

“No one likes closing schools and this was a very difficult decision. But Labour MSPS should have the guts to admit that their councillors proposed the closure and that Labour voted for it’s closure.

“The unanimous decision was backed by education and church representatives because of the circumstances of the school and the alternatives on offer.

“This decision has no bearing on any other school. Each case is unique as each school, and the local circumstances will be unique.

"The SNP Government has put in place steps to support parents and children in rural areas in making the case to save their school. Labour simply closed 64 rural schools without question.

"In this case the planning, the consultation and the proposals for future education for children from Crossroads in Kilmarnock ensured the best possible education."

MEGRAHI FROM ALJAZEERA

Did BP have a role in the release of the Lockerbie bomber? That is what US senators want to know as they press for an investigation on the issue.

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, a Libyan national, was the only man convicted in the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am Flight over Lockerbie, Scotland.

The bombing killed 270 people - most of them US citizens. In 2001, al-Megrahi was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

But the Scottish government released him last year on 'strict justice criteria' - saying he has terminal cancer with just three months to live.

Shortly after Megrahi's return to Tripoli, the Libyan government awarded BP a multi-billion dollar offshore oil deal.

The timing of the deal, and the fact that 11 months after the release Meghrahi is still alive has led to speculation as to whether BP had anything to do with the release.

The oil giant denies lobbying for al-Megrahi's release - saying it only encouraged the British government to complete a prisoner-transfer deal with Libya.

So, what are the likely implications of the alleged BP role in al-Megrahi's controversial release?

Inside Story, with presenter Sohail Rahman, discusses with Bill Kidd, a member of the Scottish Parliament for the Scottish National Party, Hans Koechler, who was an International Observer at the Lockerbie trial, and Dave Cole, the managing director of the Atlantic Council.

I wonder how Docherty can afford a house costing £320000. he probably took lesson from Charlie Gordon who has become a millionaire property owner in Glasgow.

The 'x' file - the truth is out there

Tomorrow will see another instalment of First Ministers Questions, the weekly interrogation of the First Minister carried out on our behalf by opposition party leaders and sundry backbenchers.

Most of us are familiar with the drill. Iain Gray gets to ask four questions with Annabelle Goldie and Tavish Scott getting two apiece – then the floor is opened up to the chorus line, so to speak.

It's a mixture of questions and speeches with claim and counter claim jousting with figures and statistics as the protagonists seek to ensure that their point makes the headlines that evening and beyond.

Last week it was the rhetoric and claims of Labour leader Iain Gray that brought the immediate plaudits. Putting the First Minister on the spot with the revelation that a government agency – Skills Development Scotland – was planning to spend £555,000 changing its name to 'Scotland – the Works'.

Taunting and mocking Alex Salmond, usually a master of his brief, Iain Gray lapped up the rare moment of success. It wasn't the most earth shattering revelation and it wouldn't cause much by way of political harm, but the timing of such a plan, given the dire state of the UK economy, was embarrassing for the First Minister.

Immediately after the session BBC Scotland's political editor Brian Taylor was clear in his appraisal; according to Mr Taylor Iain Gray had performed well; “That was a good one wasn't it, that was a good one?” he said of Gray's line of attack.

It was all set to be a prominent story on that evening's news and the following days newspapers until something unexpected happened. Within hours, the agency at the centre of the allegations had issued a statement stating that the claims were untrue, that the name change proposal had been ditched two months earlier.

By then though the story was off and running, had been mentioned on some bulletins and featured prominently on Brian Taylor's own blog. Mr Taylor hastily added updates to the blog, the first made mention of the denial statement whilst the second and final update gave the distinct impression that the Labour claims were true – they had published a document as proof, said the BBC Scotland political editor.

That was it from Mr Taylor's blog, there has been no mention of the subsequent statements issued by Skills Development Scotland explaining that the aforementioned document was prepared on the 27th April for a senior management meeting at which the earlier 30th March decision, not to go ahead with any name change, was underlined.

For those who may have missed the claims made by the Labour leader in the Holyrood chamber we have prepared a short video containing the actual footage, his claims are followed at the end by an abridged version of the post session analysis that deals specifically with those allegations.

As you can see, Iain Gray's allegations were very clear - £555,000 on a name change and a further £1.6 million marketing it. But was the agency at that moment really planning to change it's name from Skills Development Scotland to 'Scotland – The Works'?

Taking the agency statements at face value then the answer is no, it was a proposal that had long since been ditched. Certainly by the time Iain Gray stood up in the chamber the proposal was no longer live. Scottish Labour of course say they have a document that proves their leader's claim, but despite Brian Taylor reporting it had been published, this 'x' file is proving impossible to locate.

For those who may wonder why this news site is concerned with a matter that the Scottish media seem to have dismissed, we simply remind them that these allegations were made in the Scottish parliament. If a senior politician decides to stand up in the chamber and level accusations at public bodies whilst at the same time seeking to use them for political gain and to mock his opponent, then we have to be sure they are valid.

The First Minister himself has on more than one occasion faced baseless accusations that he 'misled' parliament. The accusations, without fail, then featured prominently in the press and broadcast media, sometimes for months (remember Trump?).

There are very real doubts over the validity of the claims made by Mr Gray. If, as it appears, critical scrutiny of statements made in the chamber are to be one way only then the chamber itself loses integrity.

Finally, there are those who would suggest that the BBC's Brian Taylor has damaged his reputation by appearing to blithely accept Iain Gray's original claims at face value without bothering to check their accuracy. This can be remedied to an extent by simply publishing, on his blog, the documents he claims Labour have already published – or at least provide a link to downloadable PDF's.

It may not clear up this issue one way or the other but it will allow the general public to formulate their own opinion on the truth of the matter, whilst in possession of as many of the facts as possible.

The truth is out there .... let's see it.

Gray Iain and his team are being marginalised by their own visceral hatred of the SNP. So much energy goes into opposing the SNP, and looking for anything to try to undermine them that they have become sterile and negative, full of vituperation, which is bordering on racism.

Tavish Scott can see the wrting on the wall come next year for Holyrood elections. The SNP are being wooed once more.

In an earlier statement, SDS says that an internal proposal to use The Works as a corporate brand was rejected by their directors on the 30th of March.”……having scanned every channel of news I can find no evidence of this document. Brian is seems will be wiping the egg from his ample chops.


Will we see Gray apologising to Parliament for his lies, and will Brian publish a correction on his blog?


The SNP should be holding Gray to account for his lies in Holyrood.
It was quite noticeable on the Politics Show that crooked mouth Glenn Campbell made a great fuss of questioning Gray on his lack of clarity on the budget cuts and his spokesman Kerrs statements to The Daily Mail asking Salmond to cut the budget immediately. But quietly avoided the issue of the Skills Development Scotland lies told by Gray.

(Campbell. Fanciful reconstructions derive it from the French de Campo Bello, but the likely source is the caimbeul, an Early Modern Irish or Gaelic by name meaning wry mouth, crooked mouth or twisted mouth, which refers to "the man whose mouth inclined a little on one side" or a dishonest person.) Ain't that the truth.


It was also very noticeable that no spokesman from the SNP was allowed to comment on the budget cuts article. Except that is a pre recorded piece from Stuart Stevenson defending the spurious allegations on the emissions target. What a scandalous disgrace BBC Scotland have become, they are worse than Pravda, and just as blatant.

Glenn Campbell trying his best with his usual constant interruptions to trip up Nicola Sturgeon. Nicola has more ability in her little finger than Campbell and Bailey have in their whole bodies. And I make no apologies for saying this in Baileys case that is a lot of body. You really would think that Labour would have the good sense to put up a better example of good health practise as a health spokes person than the obese Bailey. Credibility goes a long way. If your only talent is to lie through your teeth you need to look as if you know what the subject is about, and you understand what health is about. She patently fails on every count. Her constant shaking of her head which is unfortunately attached to her fulsome chins makes her look even more ridiculous.

Nicola Sturgeon is one of the bright shining lights in the political landscape in Scotland, and thank God for her. She is bright articulate and far to smart for the likes of Campbell and Bailey. Despite Campbell's best effort she stuck to her guns, and in a dignified and well mannered tone took them both down and exposed their hypocrisy.

The reek of corruption from Labour in Lanarkshire just gets worse and worse. Ingram. McCann, Keane, Docherty, names that are forever tainted with patronage, self interest and arrogance. It really is long overdue for Labour to be brought to account, the MSM in Scotland are frozen with fear and collusion. At least the Sunday Times seems to be willing to stare them down.


On events today, the Politics show with resident sneering liar Glenn Campbell was the most disgraceful piece of unionist biased programming yet seen in Scotland. BBC Scotland are a total disgrace. Sycophants like Kenny McQuarrie who fill his Hebridean wellies to the tune of £200,000 plus generous benefits and bonuses, per annum at Pacific Quay, has presided over the worst programming in the history of BBC Scotland. The blatant propaganda by this London controlled organisation is enraging. Please god it makes votes for the SNP. I could see at the end that Angus Robertson was blazing with anger and who could blame him.

The average British soldier is 19 years old…..he is a short haired, well built lad who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears and just old enough to buy a round of drinks but old enough to die for his country – and for you. He’d rather be grafting in Afghanistan than unemployed in the UK. He recently left comprehensive school where he was probably an average student, played some form of sport, drove a ten year old rust bucket, and knew a girl that either broke up with him when he left, or swore to be waiting when he returns home. He moves easily to rock and roll or hip-hop or to the rattle of a 7.62mm machine gun.


He is about a stone lighter than when he left home because he is working or fighting from dawn to dusk and well beyond. Letter writing is a pain for him, but he can strip a rifle in 25 seconds and reassemble it in the dark. He can recite every detail of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either effectively if he has to. He digs trenches and latrines without the aid of machines and can apply first aid like a professional paramedic. He can march until he is told to stop, or stay dead still until he is told to move.


He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation but he is not without a rebellious spirit or a sense of personal dignity. He is confidently self-sufficient. He has two sets of uniform with him: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his water bottle full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never forgets to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes and fix his own hurts. If you are thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food is your food. He'll even share his life-saving ammunition with you in the heat of a firefight if you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and regards his weapon as an extension of his own hands. He can save your life or he can take it, because that is his job - it's what a soldier does. He often works twice as long and hard as a civilian, draw half the pay and have nowhere to spend it, and can still find black ironic humour in it all. There's an old saying in the British Army: 'If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined!'


He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and he is unashamed to show it or admit it. He feels every bugle note of the 'Last Post' or 'Sunset' vibrate through his body while standing rigidly to attention. He's not afraid to 'Bollock' anyone who shows disrespect when the Regimental Colours are on display or the National Anthem is played; yet in an odd twist, he would defend anyone's right to be an individual. Just as with generations of young people before him, he is paying the price for our freedom. Clean shaven and baby faced he may be, but be prepared to defend yourself if you treat him like a kid.

He is the latest in a long thin line of British Fighting Men that have kept this country free for hundreds of years. He asks for nothing from us except our respect, friendship and understanding. We may not like what he does, but sometimes he doesn't like it either - he just has it to do.. Remember him always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.

And now we even have brave young women putting themselves in harm's way, doing their part in this tradition of going to war when our nation's politicians call on us to do so.

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and if you are so inclined, feel free to say a prayer for our troops in the trouble spots of the world.

I wouldn't dream of breaking this chain - would you?

If only our politicians displayed a fraction of the guts and sheer courage of these men and women who they put in harms way, they might be better thought of, instead of popping up in Afghanistan to get a cynical photo op, and then come home and tell lies to the House of Commons.

At least President Obam is prepared to walk the walk. This should be compulsory for all our liars.

Glenn Campbell

An excellent exposure of the fool Campbell and BBC Scotlands propaganda:

Caroline Stevenson, whose son, Syracuse student Sandy Phillips, was aboard Pan Am 103, has already stated that she is "not disturbed" by Al-Megrahi's release.
"Whether he's in jail or whether he's with his family, it doesn't impact me," she said. "He should be able to be with his family and die in peace. And I hope he has found some peace." "I am not disturbed by it. I feel like if he is dying of prostate cancer, I don't have any problems at all with him being able to be with his family as he dies."
Stevenson added that she doesn't understand the U.S. government's opposition to al-Megrahi's release.
"I strongly believe in the Scottish Judicial system, and I support their decision," she said. "The people of Scotland have been very good to me and my family."


A slightly different view from the one that has thus far prevailed at the BBC, like we say, it’s a pity that having sent a team all the way to the USA at considerable expense, nobody managed to find Caroline Stevenson. Glenn finished his week off on Saturday with a ‘debate’ on the Megrahi release held inside a New York restaurant, the discussion is not documented here but pretty much went as you would expect such a discussion to go – if it is being chaired by Glenn Campbell.

This appeared in The Sunday Mail. Many questions arise from these images but the starkest question for me is, if a man cannot dress himself in a dignified manner then why should people vote for him? Check the sleeves on Bains coat, dear God his poor mother must be cringing with embarrassment, that is if it was she who dressed him? He looks like a wee sneak at school who I used to poke and nip at every opportunity, what a creepy wee man.

This is the man who claims to live in the community, yet it is his mother who does, and he uses her address. He lives in London apparently where he works as a university bore.

HORRIBLE POLITICIANS

Despite taking a step back from blogging, there are times when I become so angry with what I read and hear on the radio that the need to record it somewhere takes over me, so here goes.

MPs who in recent weeks have been subject to the utter revulsion and contempt of the proletariat, are without doubt unable to climb out of the self created bubble of greed and self interest. Instead it has been agreed by a small committee of MPs chaired by John Bercow, the new Speaker, and including Harriet Harman, the Labour Leader of the House and Alan Duncan, the Tory frontbencher, that they shall partake of yet more unaccountable pounds from our pockets.

What then was all the guff from Bercrow, when he was dragged to The Speakers chair, about honesty, openness, transparency, accountability, decency, respect, honour, etc etc etc? I thought at the time that he looked and sounded very much like an oleaginous wee turd and I was right. There has to be some kind of revolution in this UK, and Alex Salmond seems to me to be the only one ready willing and able to deliver it, we need to get out and quick.

The MOD trying to reduce payments to our maimed and injured service personnel, as if the payouts they get are not mean enough.

And the fact that we cannot even look after our pensioners better than Romania. The UK has the fourth-highest level of poverty among over 65s in Europe, behind countries like Romania, European Commission figures have shown.

We will soon be getting foreign aid from Bangladesh.

And now these disgusting liars and crooks are of for the longest Parliamentary holiday on record, laughing all the way to the bank whilst we suffer the consequences of their actions. Oh aye and they say they are working really hard whilst taking this break. WHY WOULD WE BELIEVE THEM.

Every time I see on the news, another fatality amongst our forces it is like a red hot needle goes into my soul. Not least because as an ex soldier, and father of a serving officer, I witnessed the death and destruction of some of my own comrades. But more much more than that because of the lies and duplicity that has put the lives of our finest young men and women at risk because of the ego of this corrupt PM and the previous one.

When Brown promised a root and branch review of Parliament he promised transparency, accountability, honesty, and respect. At his very first opportunity he has completely and predictably failed to do so. Promises mean nothing to these crooks. His moral compass, just spins and spins, as he flounders around in a bed of his making.

His announcement that yet another Iraq war enquiry will be secret has just blown him out of the water for good. To open it to public scrutiny could see him and Blair in jail for war crimes.

The never ending pain and grief that these liars have put families through is hard for anyone to imagine. Losing a comrade is pain that never fades, losing a son or daughter must be multiplied by God knows how many factors. Yet these cowards have never had the guts to meet the likes of Rosie and George Gentle, and their family, who's existence is a painful one as they try to come to terms with the loss of their brave 19 year old laddie.

When our son is on active service we dread hearing the news or seeing a strange car in the street, it is a living hell. You pray and pray for their safety and hide your worry as much as you can. You stop going to places where you can see the news channel on the TV. You stop reading newspapers. You withdraw into a shell hoping that the worst just avoids you this time.

The UK and the World is a much more dangerous place since Blair's decision to follow the Neocon Texan cowboy into the desert and spread death and destruction in a sovereign country for oil. May they rot and burn in hell.

One reason why the unelected Brown does not want an open transparent enquiry is that his tenure in No11 will see him exposed as one of the main reasons that troops were deprived of very basic equipment taken for granted by other armies, such as proper robust vehicles and not ex NI snatch landrovers, good modern body armour and most important good air cover and medivac facilities. His restraints put on Whitehall at the time were the main reason for these disgracefull failures.

Grieving mothers like Rosie Gentle who's son Gordon died for want of electronic counter measures, which was being held back in a bloody store somewhere, instead of being issued.

This is how Rosie found out:

"Fusileer Gentle was travelling with a convoy of Snatch Land Rovers as it left Basra Palace at 8.30 on the morning of Monday 28 June. Fusileer Sean Gill, next to him, told the inquest he was dazzled by a huge flash as the bomb exploded. "I was disorientated for a few seconds. He was lying on his back with his eyes open."

Shrapnel had pierced Gordon's upper back, cutting an artery and stopping the flow of blood to his brain. A camera crew with the convoy filmed the efforts of his colleagues to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Within hours, a censored version of the footage appeared on the breakfast news – and was seen by Rose Gentle as she drank a morning coffee. "I thought, 'God, some poor mammy's going to see her son lying on the ground.'" She did think for one awful moment that she recognised Gordon, but thought, "It can't be, I would have been told."

Three hours later, two soldiers came to the shop where she worked. They asked her to sit in their car, and then they told her. "All I can remember is running out the car, screaming.'"

Her husband, George, a construction ground worker, collapsed from the shock when she rang to tell him. "I just says, 'The wee man's been killed.'" George has not worked since. He supports his wife's campaigning, but plays no public part in it. While we talk, he stays out of the way in Gordon's room, on the computer."
