PLEASE GOD SAVE US FROM THESE FOOLS

... approximately 1,600 Scots had died horrible deaths at Durham Cathedral and Castle. Their remains are reputed to lie within the grounds of Durham Cathedral …

To this very day, there is no memorial of any kind to these unknown Scottish soldiers and they have not received a Christian burial.

They lie in anonymity in what they would have regarded as foreign soil in the place they had been imprisoned, far from their homes and the graves of their loved ones...

They are the hidden dead of Durham Cathedral ...

Then we remember our Founders and Benefactors who gave us this Cathedral to steward today, and finally on St Andrew’s Day we dedicate a plaque to Scottish soldiers imprisoned here during the Civil War when this Cathedral was desecrated by Cromwell’s army.
